No More Fillings: New Gel Could Regrow Tooth Damage

According to a study in ACS Nano, researchers in Paris, France have developed a gel that can regrow tooth tissue lost as a result of tooth decay.  The gel contains a natural pituitary gland hormone called MSH (melanocyte-stimulating hormone) which my be critical in bone regeneration and poly-L-glutamic acid which is a resilient drug delivery chemical.  The gel is currently sucessful in animal trials and appears poised to move onto clinical trials soon. The find could mean a dramatic change in dental care as a result of tooth decay; instead of getting your teeth drilled and filled when you get a cavity, the gel could be applied to regrow your cavity-ravished teeth.
